The back is hinged so that it can be folded down during transportation. This also assists with getting the bench up narrow staircases etc.
Why not add a duck feather seat pad  (well we would not harm a goose!) and/or a pair of bolsters? These can be supplied with or without coverings in your material (prices upon request for upholstery).
